Business Case Preferences
Txture's Business Case Builder (BCB) offers a dedicated area to manage preferences for the computation of business cases. With a few deviations, preferences in the BCB are comparable to the TA preferences for the Transformation Cockpit.
Introduction
The computation of business cases is based on business case preferences. Each business case has its own preferences. This makes it possible to compare several scenarios for the target architecture.
When creating a new business case, a number of key settings need to be defined. In addition, there are Advanced Settings which can be set optionally. If ignored, the calculation of the business case also works with the default values.
Mandatory Business Case Settings
The available settings are the same as in the Transformation Cockpit TA Preferences but with a few key differences explained in this chapter.
Cloud Provider
This is a mandatory setting. Only a single provider can be selected.
Allowed Locations
Select either a specific data center region (e.g. Frankfurt) or select multiple within a broader region (e.g. Europe). If more than one data center region was selected, Txture selects the top one based on their ranking. The ranking can be influenced with the Optimized Data Center Selection.
If you do not set any allowed location, "EU" is being used as a default.
Multi-Location Proposals
The consideration of different locations for certain assets within one business case is only possible by using the setting Prefer AS-IS Asset Locations, which takes the closest matching data center region based on the individual assets Location property.
Optimized Data Center Selection
If you have defined several data center regions in your Allowed Locations setting and you have NOT selected Prefer AS-IS Asset Locations, Txture selects the top ranking data center region. The rank is based on three dimensions:
- Low Cost
- Low Carbon Emissions
- High Variety of Products
This setting allows you to influence the ranking by prioritizing a certain criteria over another.
Cloud Approach
This is a mandatory setting and only a single Cloud Approach can be selected from Txture’s default approaches. For more advanced requirements, you can still use additional configurations and restrictions within a single Cloud Approach (Example: Restricting the Managed Services Service Strategy to only a group of assets based on their operating system and falling back to the Lift & Shift Service Strategy for all remaining assets).
For more details please refer to the associated documentation.
Note
In the Business Case Builder only the most commonly used preferences are directly shown. To see all the available settings, you can use the toggle in the bottom left corner to display the advanced preferences.
Advanced Business Case Settings
All the advanced business case setting have the same behavior as the Transformation Cockpit TA Preferences.
