Manual Modeling in Txture

While Txture offers multiple ways to import existing data or to crowd-source data, it can still be necessary to manually enter data. Besides adding data directly via the Repository, it is possible to graphically model using a Dependency report. Here, we provide a brief step-by-step guide to illustrate how to graphically model assets and their links.

  1. Navigate to the Reports section (Main Menu / Reports) and click on Create new report. Choose the Dependency report type.

  2. Either click on Add asset(s) or use the Query bar to add one or multiple assets.

  3. To model additional assets, you can either follow the standard tabular way of adding/creating additional assets and links. When you add assets to the report the links will be drawn automatically. However, you can also draw links to new assets in a more graphical way. To do so, hover over an asset on the canvas and click the small link icon . Then you can draw a new link to a location on the canvas where you want to add the linked asset. Alternatively, you can right-click the asset from which you want to draw a link and select Links.

  4. Once you click on the position (or select Links after right-clicking) a dialog appears that lets you pick any available link type in your model that matches the asset from which the link originated. Note, that adding new link types is not possible in the Dependency report directly. Since they are part of the data model, they can only be added by your admin in the Structure Editor.

  5. After selecting a link, you will be prompted with an asset selection dialog showing all available assets that match the link you just created. You can filter them as usual, or create a new asset of a matching type. Once you chose an asset to connect the link to, the link is stored to the repository.

You can then proceed to model additional links and assets by going through the steps above once again. Note, that any assets and links you create in the Dependency report are stored in the Repository.

If you want to change the appearance of the assets and links that you are modeling, you can use Conditional Styling.
