Configuring a Dashboard

This tutorial guides you through the creation and configuration process of a dashboard. As an example, you will create a dashboard to track the data collection of the current IT infrastructure.

Imagine you want to modernize your current IT infrastructure and the first step is to gather all your current assets into Txture to prepare for the assessment phase.

Step 1: Create a new dashboard to track the data collection

  1. Click the Select Dashboard button in the top right corner.
  2. From the sidebar that appears, select +Create new dashboard.
  3. Your new dashboard opens automatically.

Step 2: Name your dashboard

  1. Click on the default name ("Dashboard") in the top left corner.
  2. Enter a descriptive name, such as "Data Collection Dashboard".
note

All changes to dashboards save automatically.

Step 3: Add your first widgets

  1. Click the +Add widget dropdown in the top right corner.
  2. Add the Assets by Type widget. This widget shows you all the assets and counts the assets by type.
  3. Click the +Add widgets button again and add the Assets over Time widget. This widget gives you a great view of how the assets have developed over time.
  4. Click the +Add widgets button again and add the Query Count widget. This widget counts the available assets in your environment.

Step 4: Configure the widget

  1. Hover over your newly added Query Count widget.
  2. Click the burger menu in the top right corner of the widget and hit the settings button.
  3. Change the query that the widget uses to count the assets:
    • Choose the option Define your custom query to define a new query.
    • Change the query to Add Type is Virtual Server. This changes the widget to only count the virtual server assets from your repository.
  4. Save the new query.

Step 5: Customize the widget title

  1. Click on the Query Count widget's current title.
  2. Enter a descriptive name like "Virtual Servers in Instance" that explains what the widget shows.

Step 6: Arrange your dashboard

The widgets on a dashboard are arranged in a grid and can be moved and modified.

Moving widgets:

  1. Hover over a widget to reveal the widget menu.
  2. Click and drag the position marker (⋮⋮).
  3. Drag the widget to your desired location.
  4. Release to place - other widgets will adjust automatically.

Resizing widgets:

  1. Hover over a widget.
  2. Click and drag the bottom-right corner.
  3. Adjust to your preferred size.
  4. Release to apply - the widget content adapts to the new size.
tip

Keep dashboards compact enough to view without scrolling for the best user experience. Consider the screen resolution of users viewing your dashboard. It’s best to optimize the dashboard for smaller screen sizes so that all users can view the information properly, even on smaller displays.
