Reports
Reports (Main Menu
/ Reports
) are a central concept in Txture and the main tool to investigate and display data.
They essentially consist of two ingredients:
- Query: the query results in a number of assets to be displayed
- Report type: a type of chart or way of displaying information
This basic structure allows for switching the Report Type without changing the query. Additionally, Txture supports the concept of Report Templates. While similar to reports, the key difference is that variables can be used for the query.
Concept of query-based reports
To fully understand Txture's reports, it is important to comprehend the nature of reports: Reports do not save the underlying data, but instead are based on queries which return a set of assets and links between them. In combination with the layout settings (report type) for these assets this leads to the corresponding report.
Reports may change over time
Reports opened at a later point in time may have changed because queries may yield a different result at a later point in time (due to the underlying data changing over time).
Creating a new report
The Reports
tab in Txture's navigation menu allows to access reports and report templates.
Creating a new report presents itself like this:
If any report templates have already been created, these are displayed in the first section. Below the report templates, all report types are presented.
Option 1: Creating from scratch
If one chooses to create a new report, it starts off with an empty query and some example queries.
The shown example is an empty table report and the query bar opened awaiting input. A simple example is to add all assets of a specific type.
Option 2: Using a report template to create a new report
Selecting a report template leads to an intermediate dialog in order to fill the variables of the report template.
A click on CREATE REPORT
fills in the pre-defined variable Application and results in a new report.
Saving reports
Any report can be saved and reopened at a later time. When saving, a report name, description and tags can be chosen to facilitate finding the report again.
The scenario drop-down allows to specify the scenario this report is intended for. When opening the report, the report will be opened in the specified scenario.
When a report is saved, the visibility for other users or user roles can be specified. Clicking on "Only me" in the visibility section opens up to dialog to make reports visible for other users.
Exporting reports
Depending on the report type there are different export options:
- Export to CSV or Excel: most useful in the case of tabular data such as the table report. Details can be found in the export documentation.
- Export to an image: accessible for graphical representations such as the dependency report from the
Menu
.
Some report types support manual resizing of the exported image or document. A target output size can be specified (e.g. A4 paper) and the content can be adjusted to make best use of the space.
