RVTools
RVTools is an application that uses the VMware vSphere Management SDK and CIS REST API to display information about your virtual environments. It provides details about VMs, CPU, Memory, Disks, Partitions, Network, and more.
General Workflow
1. Export Data from RVTools
- Use RVTools to export your environment data to an Excel file.
- Refer to the RVTools documentation for export instructions.
2. Upload the Excel File to a Data Source
The exported Excel file must be accessible to Txture. You can do this by:
- Uploading directly to a file upload data source.
- Storing the file on a cloud service such as AWS S3 or Google Cloud Storage.
- Placing the file in a folder data source accessible to Txture.
3. Create an Importer
- In Txture, navigate to the importer section and create a new importer.
- Choose the previously created data source that contains the exported RVTools file.
- Select the RVTools importer from the available data format options (CSV, JSON, RVTools, Spreadsheet).
4. Define Property Mapping
- Click "Propose Mapping", which helps create a property mapping from the Excel columns to the corresponding properties in Txture.
- Adjust the mapping if needed to ensure accurate data import.
Recommended Type Mapping
The table below shows the recommended mapping of types from RVTools exports to asset types in Txture.
Excel Sheet | RVTools Type | Txture Asset Type |
---|---|---|
vHost | Host | Physical Server |
vCluster | Cluster | Compute Cluster |
vInfo | Info | Virtual Server |
vPartition | Partition | Storage |
vNetwork | Network | Network Zone |
vCPU | CPU | Property import for Virtual Server |
vMemory | Memory | Property import for Virtual Server |
RVTools Version Compatibility
Our metadata mapping is aligned with RVTools 4.4.4.
- Newer versions of RVTools may introduce changes, but they are generally expected to be minor.
- If Txture detects differences in the column structure of your imported file, a warning message will be displayed outlining the detected changes.
- If a column you wish to import is listed as missing/added in the warning, you may need to check for version differences or contact our Support team for assistance.
