Target Architecture
After you've decided to migrate (parts of) your assessed application landscape, you move on to the next step: planning the target architecture of your applications in the cloud. Based on the collected data, Txture automatically generated target architectures (so-called "Cloud Proposals") for the desired cloud provider. Such Cloud Proposals are the baseline for choosing the right mix of cloud products and configuration settings and rely on Txture's internal Cloud Knowledge Base.
1. How are the Cloud Proposals generated?
Txture's Cloud Knowledge Base contains up-to-date knowledge on cloud products, their configuration items, cost, certifications, availability regions, etc., across several cloud providers. (This knowledge of the cloud market is also offered via a separate product, the Cloud Insider).
Txture automatically searches for proper cloud products within its knowledge base according to your Target Architecture Preferences and suggests infrastructure, platform, container or software replacements for your applications and related IT assets. For selected target architectures, you are presented with a migration plan, including all involved cloud products, as well as a cost forecast based on the most relevant cost factors of the involved cloud products. Txture also reports on the scale of your entire application landscape regarding, e.g., planned use of cloud providers, operating expenditures, or employed cloud service models.
2. What information is included in a Cloud Proposal?
A Cloud Proposal contains...
- ...an overview of the cloud services that will have to be booked from cloud providers, as well as their various pricing models.
- ...the technical configurations of the services at an instance level (sizing).
- ...the migration strategy that must be taken when migrating components of the deployment stack, such as replace, rehost, replatform, remove, or retain - everything on a granularity level of individual components of the deployment stack such as servers, databases or software components.
- ...the forecasting operating expenses for the proposal.
By comparing proposals from a technical and financial perspective you will be able to make the right transformation decisions for each application.
In the Target Architecture phase, for each application, you can select exactly one single proposal, which means that you determine the target architecture for the application. Selecting a proposal for all applications will lead you to a cloud transformation decision for your entire portfolio, thus allowing you to forecast the operating expenses and cloud service usage. It is also the basis for creating migration roadmaps.
Selecting a proposal has a decisive impact on the further steps of your cloud transformation project: The target architecture contained in the proposal represents the blueprint for the implementation of the migration of the individual components.
