Assessment
Assessing applications on their cloud readiness is the first active step towards a cloud decision. Two input factors steer the assessments in Txture:
- Collected data about applications, their IT infrastructure and business support.
- The Assessment Preferences which cover the ruleset for the assessment, Txture's so called Assessment Rules.
1. How does the Assessment in Txture work?
Txture analyzes all collected data on the applications and carries out calculations based on Txture's Assessment Rules. Assessment Rules are used to evaluate the cloud readiness, cloud benefit and migration risk of applications and to provide hints on data completeness problems.
The set of Assessment Rules contains rules for the following four categories:
- Some rules assess the architectural complexity of the applications in scope.
- Some rules assess the technical configuration of the assess applications.
- Some rules assess the applications with regard to its criticality to the the ongoing business.
- Some rules assess the applications with regard to its data risk.
Each rule assesses the application with regards to at least one aspect (e.g. an application’s virtualization degree) and performs calculations based on the information known about the application itself and associated assets. While each rule has its specific data requirements, each rule also creates individual combinations of outcomes.
The rule shown in the screenshot below generates outcomes with regard to the application’s exptected Migration Risk and recommended Migration Strategy.
2. What are the results of the Assessment?
The outcome of the Txture's Assessment includes...
- ...a score for the overall cloud readiness,
- ...a score for the expected benefit that can be achieved by migrating the application to the cloud,
- ...a score for the expected risk that comes with migrating the application to the cloud,
- ...the recommended Migration Strategy (6 Rs),
- ...several further classification of the application, which provides an overview of the potential of migrating the application into the cloud.
