Waterfall Chart

The waterfall chart is a report type specialized for showing cumulative effects. It visualizes the increase or decrease over time in assets matching a certain criterion.

Concepts

The bar with the label "Total assets" shows the number of assets resulting from the query. Each other bar represents an increase (green bars) or decrease (orange bars) in the number of assets falling in a certain category. This means that the delta blocks depend on what categorization (property) you choose.

Start date configuration

The Start date menu is used to set the time to be compared with the AS-IS state. The default value is "origin", which corresponds to the time the Txture instance was commissioned.

The screenshot below shows a waterfall diagram used to track the property "Migration Status" of application assets. Since "origin" has been set as the start date, all bars are green and, therefore, show an increase of assets in the respective categories. This is because the repository was empty at the time of "origin" and compared to that time, the number of assets in the respective category has increased but not descreased.

Setting the Start date to "yesterday" shows a different result (screenshot below). For example, compared to "yesterday", there are two fewer assets in the status "Data Collection completed" but two more in the status "In Migration".

Not categorized bar

All assets that do not fall in one of the categories are shown in a separate "Not categorized" column.

The following waterfall chart shows assets of the types Application and Virtual Server. For categorization, the property "Hardware Architecture" has been used.

As the application assets do not have the property "Hardware Architecture", they are listed in the "Not categorized" column.

Configuration

Follow the steps to create a new donut chart:

  1. Use the query to create custom queries.
  2. Select the Start date if you don't want to use the default value "origin".
  3. Set a property for the Categorization menu.
  4. Optional: Use the Flip direction button to flip the report horizontally.
  5. Use the Save button to save the configuration of your waterfall chart.

Styling

The waterfall report only shows accumulative data, the styling via conditional styling is, therefore, not available.

Export

The waterfall can be exported as PDF, PNG or SVG file.
